Liberator

Liberator is a Divine Power that lets the character do a variety of things, having to do with overcoming hindrances and limitations in various ways (think breaking out of the prison, both in the literal and the metaphorical sense). See the Brief Summary, further down, for more information.

of which the most important, from a traditional RPG perspective, is all sorts of healing of physical damage and disease.

It is an expensive Power, and characters cannot have it unless they have at least 2 levels of Alignment with the Divine. Most of the effects cost Divine Power Points, and the main benefit of having more than 2 levels of Divine Alignment is getting more Power Points. Also, while Divine Power Points are plentiful, they recharge only once every Moon, so a wise character saves them up for truly important uses.

Please note that all Divine Powers uses points from the same pool of Power Points, and that a character does not get additional Divine Power Points just because he has more than one Divine Power. The benefit of having multiple Divine Powers is greater flexibility.

Brief summary of uses

Here is a very short list of the thing that a character with Liberator might be able to do

  • Break chains and ropes, cause locks to open, and less directly also grant RD bonuses to Escape Artist and Lockpicking skill rolls of other characters.
  • Calm others, so that their Flaws are temporarily less strong (i.e. for a time they have greater control over their own actions).
  • Excorcise victims of possession (i.e. Demonic or spiritual possession).
  • Get a RD bonus to Spot Illusion rolls, and temporarily grant such a bonus to others.
  • Ignore bodily needs such as food, water, air, sleep, or a reasonable ambient temperature, and even temporarily let others ignore such needs.
  • Ignoring pain, also allowing others to ignore pain.
  • Overcome language barriers, and temporarily grant that ability to others.
  • Remove magical curses, negating other magics, including dis-Enchanting magical items.
  • Walk through walls and bars, or walk on water, and temporarily granting such abilities to others.

Note that some of these effects only become available at higher Power Levels. Typically, the ability to grant an effect to another character comes at a higher Power Level than that when the Cleanser become able to use the effect on himself.

Legal specializations

In some cases, a character with the Liberator Divine Power may specialize in one effect, gaining some benefit to that effect, such as reduced Power Point cost of usage, or increased range. The legal choices are any one of:

  • Break Chains/Ropes, do locks, Escape Artist.
  • Calm.
  • Excorcism.
  • Spot Illusion.
  • Ignore bodily needs, ignoring pain.
  • Overcome language barriers.
  • Remove curses, dispel magic, dis-Enchant.
  • Walk through walls/bars, walk on water.

In all cases, the specialization bonus applies to all uses, including using the Power on others.
